Olympics: First medal in 48 years for Singapore

Congrats to the Table Tennis team..!

It was indeed a thriller and a close match with South Korea team.

There were instances that I could not bear to watch and the rallies were very good; from defensive to attacking and then repeated again.

Feng Tianwei was the heroine.

Our doubles team winning their game, Li Jia Wie & Wang Yuegu.

Our beloved captain of the team, Li Jia Wei.....

We salute the team for their efforts and bringing home at least a Silver Olympic medal...!!!

Congrats to Tao Li !

Hi,

It was so exciting to see her swam her way to the final of the 100M Butterfly swimming event.

Libby Trickett, the eventual Gold winner, has this to say of Tao Li.

"It is amazing achievement for her to qualify for the final, considering this is her first Olympics. ... Sometimes people under-estimate how hard it is to get into the top eight at the Olympics. ....Obviously, she knows how to handle the pressure and she'got a bright future ahead of her."

Well said.... and I am sure we are proud of her achievement eventhough no medal was won.

Also,Tao Li was the youngest and smallest swimmer among the eight finalists. To closk sub-58 seconds timings in three consecutive races is by no means an easy feat.

I salute you, Tao Li, and keep it up....!

Happy 43rd Birthday, Singapore !

Hi,

As usual, the family watched NDP 'lve' on TV and enjoyed every minutes of it.

We are all so caught up with watching the Olympics 'live' on TV and I almost forgot to put up this post too!

I also rushed to Suntec City on Sun morning to upgrade my Starhub digital box to a HD box as it was too good an offer to miss, trying to watch the Olympics in HD on channel 300, HD 5....!

This is a photo taken of Jason 4 years ago, when he attended the NDP at the National Stadium. Great shot by his teacher!

Anyway, we have a good weekend and this happens to be my dear wife birthday month and we bought her a present too.

We love you, SINGAPORE !

Dental Care

Hi,

I just went for my regular dental treatment; ie cleansing process to remove the plague or tartar every 6 months or so + filling if any, etc....

I was talking to my dentist about my observation and she agreed with it.

Our parents are the generation of dentures as most of them have lost all their teeth and wearing dentures. Dental care during their days is a luxury and only on a need basis.

We belong to the generation of crowning. Our molars are repaired with so much fillings that we need to crown them; ie remove the top half and placed a false tooth on top of the root of the tooth. So we still keep part of out teeth and this is better than dentures.

Our children is the generation of braces. Just look around you, you are bound to see secondary school kids starting to wear braces. It is also catching on for some adults too.

A friend told me that his son wanted to have braces eventhough his dentist said that he does not need one. But he requested for it as it is trendy and all his friends are wearing braces!

Jas has been wearing braces for 1 1/2 years and should be removing them this Dec if all goes well.

Looking back, time flies and it was quite uncomfortable initially. I must also take my hat off him as I think he was gutsy too. He asked for it and the dentist recommended removing 4 teeth as he got a small jaw and he indeed needed braces if he wanted to have a nice set of teeth as it would be a bit crowded.

Why gutsy?

He opted to remove the 4 teeth and one deformed growth tooth that was shown by the x-ray but not visible, in one go. He was knocked out and we actually brought in an anaesthetist from a hospital to the dental clinic for this procedure. I think we were more frighten for him than him himself.

But like he said if he did not do it then, he would have eventually have to do it later anyway.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Hi,

I saw his video, The Last Lecture, last Sept 07, and just read his book with the same title only 2 weeks ago.

I was going to search for info on him to see how he was doing and then I saw the news that he just died on Fri 24 July 2008.

Here is an extract from Fox News :

"Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon computer-science professor with terminal cancer whose "Last Lecture" became a YouTube sensation in late 2007, died early Friday morning.

Pausch died at his home in Chesapeake, Va., where he had moved from Pittsburgh last fall to be closer to relatives, said Carnegie Mellon spokeswoman Anne Watzman.

Pausch's wife, Jai, put out a statement early Friday thanking "the millions of people who have offered their love, prayers and support."

"Randy was so happy and proud that the lecture and book inspired parents to revisit their priorities, particularly their relationships with their children," she said. "The outpouring of cards and e-mails really sustained him."

For more information on his video etc, you can visit this site at

I salute him and wish his family, Jai and the 3 kids, well........

Brazil - Singapore Friendly Soccer Match

Hi,

Jason and a few of his friends managed to get the student tickets for the friendly soccer match between Brazil and Singapore.

I would have joined him too but I was attending the Money No Enough 2 Gala Preimere at GV Gold with my dear wife.

Not all the tickets were sold out unlike in Vietnam where the Brazil team went next for their second warm-up match before the Olympics in Beijing.

It was claimed that the locals are more English Premiere League (EPL) fans than World Cup championship.

But I think it is more that we only know a few Brazilian players like Ronaldino and Anderson only so the attraction was not that strong, compared to the EPL players that come to our minfd easily.

Anyway, Jason had a good time and managed to take highlights of the game especially the 3 goals with his Canon digital camera...not bad..!
